Around
the time I was born, my mother was living in Glasgow, Scotland. She ran
a successful little
business, selling her artworks at local craft shows, etc... And good on
her! This was in the years
before internet even existed!! But she gave it all up when she moved
back to Canada, between raising me and my brother, working to support us
as a single mom, and dealing with severe chronic
illness, life took over... Her art sort of fell by the way-side along
the way.
I remember one day, I must have been about seven or eight years old, I found her painting something on the kitchen table. I had no idea she was an artist before that day!!! I remember being so surprised by her talent, and shocked that she had let it slide away all those years, hidden even from her own children!
I am now grown, and currently finishing up my bachelor degree at Mount Saint Vincent University here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. To fulfill my degree requirements, I picked up an Entrepreneurial course this term. Part of the course syllabus was to start and run a business of my own for two weeks!! I decided I would start a business... for my mom!!! I am running it for the next two weeks, after which I will then hand the reins over to my mother, to continue on with this herself!!
My mom believed in me all these years, and I am so grateful to her for all that she has sacrificed to raise me and my brother. This is my opportunity to believe in her! To help develop this idea into a viable option that might just pave the way to a brighter, creative future for her, to let her talent truly shine!! Love you, mom!!
